About Me

Chelsea Zi Wang

I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Columbia University. My research interests include the histories of space, book culture, and information transmission in late imperial China. Specifically, my dissertation explores how the literati senses of space were shaped by transportation and information networks during the Ming dynasty (1368-1644). More broadly, I am interested in incorporating comparative East Asian perspectives into the study of Chinese history, and I like to read broadly on the histories of premodern Japan and Korea.

About This Blog

This is a very informal place where I post brief updates about things that I find funny, strange, or intriguing during the course of my reading and research. Occasionally, I may also post reviews of Chinese and Japanese language works that I find particularly interesting.
